ReactJS – getDerivedStateFromProps() Method This method is majorly used to update the state, before the rendering of the component, which depends upon the props received by the component. This method is called on every rerendering of the component.
Initializing state In class components, there are two ways to initialize state — in a constructor function or as a Class property. Constructor functions, introduced in ES6, is the first function called in a class when it is first instantiated — meaning when a new object is created from the class.
Changing the state Object To change a value in the state object, use the this. setState() method. When a value in the state object changes, the component will re-render, meaning that the output will change ing to the new value(s).
The constructor is a method used to initialize an object's state in a class. It automatically called during the creation of an object in a class. The concept of a constructor is the same in React. The constructor in a React component is called before the component is mounted.
Initialize State in the Constructor This is the perfect place to initialize the state for the component because the constructor is called before the React renders the component in the UI.
Let's create an application in react with redux and set the initial state there: Creating React Application: Step 1: Create a React application using the following command: npx create-react-app example. Step 2: After creating your project folder i.e. example, move to it using the following command: cd example.
As soon as a custom React element is used, its lifecycle will be all messed up. So, rule of thumb, never put JSX in the state, or even outside the render cycle.
setToggle is the function that we'll use to actually update the state of our component. useState(false) this is how we 'hook' into the React feature itself. When we pass something in to this function as an argument (in our case false is our argument), React will use that passed argument as the initial state.
The getDerivedStateFromProps() method is used when the state of a component depends on changes of props. getDerivedStateFromProps(props, state) is a static method that is called just before render() method in both mounting and updating phase in React. It takes updated props and the current state as arguments.
We have to set initial state value inside constructor function and set click event handler of the element upon which click, results in changing state. Then pass the function to the click handler and change the state of the component inside the function using setState.
