alright guys in this video lets take a closer look at state and the set state method in react before we start though let me point out that I will be using the es 7 react snippets extension for the rest of the series it has some great snippets which will save us some time as we will see in this video now to help us understand the dos and donts with state and set state let us create a counter component we will basically have a count value and a button to increment that counter value Im going to start off by creating a new component called counter dot j/s so within the components folder a new file counter dot Jas since we are learning about state in class components this is going to be a class component as well and with react snippets I can type RC e and tap out and we have a class component I only want the default export though so I will remove the name export within the div tag Im going to have the text count and then let me add the counter component and the app component so count

setState() enqueues changes to the component state and tells React that this component and its children need to be re-rendered with the updated state. This is the primary method you use to update the user interface in response to event handlers and server responses.
We have to set initial state value inside constructor function and set click event handler of the element upon which click, results in changing state. Then pass the function to the click handler and change the state of the component inside the function using setState.
To avoid unnecessary renders, calling setState() only when the new state differs from the previous state makes sense and can avoid calling setState() in an infinite loop within certain lifecycle methods like componentDidUpdate . React 16 onwards, calling setState with null no longer triggers an update.
The React useState Hook allows us to track state in a function component. State generally refers to data or properties that need to be tracking in an application.
Always use the setState() method to change the state object, it will ensure that the component knows its been updated and calls the render() method (and all the other lifecycle methods).
The setState() Method State can be updated in response to event handlers, server responses, or prop changes. This is done using the setState() method. The setState() method enqueues all of the updates made to the component state and instructs React to re-render the component and its children with the updated state.
useState is a Hook (function) that allows you to have state variables in functional components. You pass the initial state to this function and it returns a variable with the current state value (not necessarily the initial state) and another function to update this value.
The setState() Method State can be updated in response to event handlers, server responses, or prop changes. This is done using the setState() method. The setState() method enqueues all of the updates made to the component state and instructs React to re-render the component and its children with the updated state.
