Here are nine steps for writing a great thank you letter: Pick your method of contact. Choose your recipients. Make it legible. Address the recipient appropriately. State the purpose of your writing. Highlight your qualifications. Restate your goals. Ask about the next steps.
Thank You as Two Words As a verb phrase, thank you is always two words. Or to put it another way, you should always use two words for the act of thanking someone: Thank you for walking my dog. We can also use this term as a noun (i.e., something given as thanks):
The ideal note is brief and to the point. Start by thanking the person, with specificity, for their gift or kind act. Write about how you plan to use their gift or how their actions made you feel. And then reiterate your thanks and mention the next time youll see the person.
When writing a letter, use single spacing. Add an additional line between each paragraph, after the greeting, and before the closing. Left and justify the text so that its flush with the left side of the page. Use a standard font and size, like Times New Roman, 12-point.
Keep thank you letter to one page. If typed, use 10-‐12 point font and 1-‐inch margins. (Use one non-‐work phone number that includes a professional voice message.) (Use professional, non-‐work email address.)
The balance of your letter will be left justified. Do not indent paragraphs. Double line space to the address section of the letter. Double line space to the salutation.
The thank-you note is special; its to express your appreciation, so keep the focus there. Use a salutation. First sentence Thank them explicitly for the specific gift or act for which you are writing the letter. I want to say how much I appreciated
Guidelines for Writing Thank You Letters We strongly encourage your letter to be typed in a font style that is easy to read and suggest using a font size of 10 to 12. Thank you cards or small note cards are not acceptable. Use a standard informal blocked letter format.
