all right so you are about to format a hard drive and then you see this option allocation unit size what does it mean well basically its the setting that divides the hard drives into small units and the smaller the units are the longer time it will take to search through the library however if you have very small files they will instead take up a lot of more space because one unit may be filled by a very small very small file the range for the unit allocation size is usually 512 bytes to 64k bytes so you should usually set it to default which is usually 4k but just set it to default especially if you are using the hard drive as your operating system hard drive however there is a few instances you could change it to something else if you have a ssd drive thats very small and you really run out of space on it and you really need to use all of the space and you dont care about it takes a little longer to search the drive then you can set the unit allocation size to minimum if you howev

The file system allocation or cluster size is commonly referred to as the block size of the disk. If a logical disk is formatted at a 4 KB block size (default on Windows and Windows Server), then a file that is 44 bytes in size will use a 4 KB (4096 bytes) block on disk to store it making the size on disk 4 KB.
On the other hand, when you possess several larger files, keeping the allocation size higher will boost the systems performance because there will be fewer blocks to aim for. However, if the allocation size is extremely big, it will consume the maximum of your PCs disk space.
Usually, 4 Kilobytes is the most common NTFS allocation unit size nowadays. When you keep your allocation unit size small, a higher allocation time will be required, leading to a slower PC. However, it will take maximum disk space if its too big.
Right-click the drive and click format, and the pop-up window will show the current cluster size under allocation unit size. Be careful that you dont actually format the disk though!
USB allocation unit size for 128GB: 8096 (8kb) USB 512GB allocation unit size is 32k; USB beyond 512GB allocation unit size is 64k or higher; USB 256GB allocation unit size is 16k; When the USB flash disc is formatted as exFAT and has a capacity more than 64GB, the system automatically adjusts the allocation unit size
Tax Sharing and Allocation Agreements are contracts that describe and coordinate the allocation of tax responsibility and benefits among the named parties for a particular transaction or for a specific taxable period.
The allocation unit size is the smallest disk space required to hold the file. Hence, one cluster can carry only one file, while one file can take multiple clusters based on its size and cluster size.
A proper SSD allocation unit size can reduce lost space: the most recommended SSD allocation unit size should be 4KB by default.
