whats going on guys welcome to your 34th XHTML and CSS tutorial and in this tutorial Im gonna be talking to you guys about something called an external stylesheet and this is definitely the most helpful lesson that I taught you guys so far so so far if you only watch one tutorial make sure its this one because its gonna make your life as a web designer so much easier so anyways wouldnt it be cool if we could have one set of Styles one set of rules that we can apply to our entire website no matter how many pages we have on it so for example before on this webpage we would need to list all our Styles turn paragraphs read turn headers green turn links orange and then we go to this web page over here turn paragraphs red turn headers green turn links orange and if we have like 500 different web pages then that would just be a pain in the rear end so anyways wouldnt be easy if we could just say alright we had this one main outline of styles that we want to apply to our entire website

CSS can be applied to HTML or XHTML using three methods: linked, embedded, and inline. In the linked method, the CSS is stored in a separate file, instead of directly in the HTML page. In the embedded method, CSS is stored as part of the HTML page, in the header section.
Its basic purpose is to allow HTML authors to associate other documents with the document containing the link tag. CSS uses it to link style sheets to the document; in Figure 1-5, a style sheet called sheet1. cs s is linked to the document.
CSS can be added to HTML documents in 3 ways: Inline - by using the style attribute inside HTML elements. Internal - by using a element in the section. External - by using a element to link to an external CSS file.
To change font size in HTML, use the CSS font-size property. Set it to the value you want and place it inside a style attribute. Then add this style attribute to an HTML element, like a paragraph, heading, button, or span tag.
An external style sheet is a separate CSS file that can be accessed by creating a link within the head section of the webpage. Multiple webpages can use the same link to access the stylesheet. The link to an external style sheet is placed within the head section of the page.
To make a style sheet preferred, set the rel attribute to stylesheet and name the style sheet with the title attribute. To specify an alternate style sheet, set the rel attribute to alternate stylesheet and name the style sheet with the title attribute.
Embedded style sheets refer to when you embed style sheet information into an HTML document using the element. You do this by embedding the style sheet information within tags in the head of your document.
The tag defines the relationship between the current document and an external resource. The tag is most often used to link to external style sheets or to add a favicon to your website. The element is an empty element, it contains attributes only.
CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is used to style and layout web pages for example, to alter the font, color, size, and spacing of your content, split it into multiple columns, or add animations and other decorative features.
External stylesheets use the tag inside the head element. The rel attribute explains the relation the link has to our document. The value in this case will always be stylesheet , since that is what were creating a link to. The href attribute is the link to our stylesheet.
