To get the shadows on your letters right, youll want to master drawing other 3D objects with shadows first, like an apple on a table in dark room with a line shining on it from above. Move the light around to see how the shadows change.
3D block letters are great for headings, posters, and birthday cards. Theyre not too tricky to learn how to draw yourself. Draw block letters by making rectangular outlines around regular letters. Make them 3D by adding perspective with diagonal lines, and then add shadows to make your letters really pop.
You only have to color in the areas of the letters that are visible. For extra depth, you shade parts of the edges. Just remember to follow the light source you defined. Another cool trick that will help your letters seem even more 3-dimensional is to add an outline.
Just draw a straight line down. From the Sun reference point draw a line through a bottom corner of the box. Then draw lines through each bottom corner. From the light source - draw a line through the top corner of the box until it docHubes the ground line.
Apply Picture Effects Select the picture. Select Picture Tools Format and select Picture Effects. Select the one you want: Shadow, Reflection, Glow, Soft Edges, Bevel, or 3-D Rotation.
