A fast shutter speed is a good starting point for wedding photography because youll capture lots of movement. For starters, set the shutter speed to 1/200 or faster. Then try shutter priority mode to really freeze moments. Set the shutter speed to 1/500th of a second to capture active moments.
However, you can use these camera settings. For Close-Ups, Keep The Aperture f/4.0. If Its A Day Time Wedding, Keep The ISO 100 or If Its A Nighttime Wedding Keep it between 8001000 or higher. Whether The Group Is Small or Large Keep the Aperture between f/1.4 and f/2.8.
I have shot in manual mode for prolonged stretches, and I do still use it if thats the best option, but for wedding photography or anything where things can unfold quickly, I find aperture priority the best choice.
Here is a general list of what one can usually expect to see. Ceremony space before guests arrive. Procession walking down the aisle. Groom standing at altar. Bride walking down aisle. Hugs with parents once the bride has walked down the aisle. Guest reactions. Exchanging vows. Exchanging rings.
So the best way to deal with organizing the images is to break them into smaller categories and then work with one folder at a time. We recommend doing this in the same order the wedding took place. Going by the folders chronologically ensures you do not miss out on any special photography moments.
However, the good news is that the photos usually arent taken all at once, and the time is broken up throughout your day. Most photographers say you need about 30 minutes for wedding party portraits, 30 minutes for family portraits (close family only), and 45 minutes for couple portraits.
Best Camera Settings for Indoor Wedding Receptions For indoor wedding receptions you will want to use a wide aperture (low f-stop number) like f/1.8 tp f/2.8 to let in maximum light. That means youll want to use your fastest lenses, the ones that are capable of the lowest f-stops.
Utilizing Shutter Speed In Wedding Photography For ceremonies, we recommend not going under 1/60 seconds to avoid getting a blurry image. For receptions, being that theres a good chance youll be using lighting, shooting between 1/200th to 1/60th will provide the best images.
