Does an eviction show up on your credit reports? The eviction itself wont show up on your credit reports. However, a landlord may choose to seek payment of unpaid rent by selling your debt to a collection agency. If your unpaid debt goes to collection it will show up on your credit report as an unpaid bill.
In Illinois, once a landlord files an eviction, it stays on the tenants public record forever. It doesnt go away unless a judge says it can be sealed. The public record is not like a credit report. Bad things on a credit report might disappear after seven years, but not with the public record.
Currently, a tenant can be evicted if the landlord or landlords family is going to move in. But starting April 1, the landlord or their family will have to move in within 90 days and live there for at least a year. Local governments are also now banned from crime-free housing policies.
