hey guys this is Austin so yesterday in an event in New York City the CEO of t-mobile got up on stage and proclaim the death of contracts on paper it sounds pretty good you can pay pretty much any phone you want including the HTC One the galaxy s4 even the iPhone 5 offer only $100 most of the time your bill should be quite a bit less and on top of that since youre not bound by a contract you can leave t-mobile at any time and switch to whoever you like however lets actually take a closer look to see if this is any good for starters what a lot of people dont realize is that phones are much more expensive than they think they are so here in the United States if I wanted to go buy a brand new iPhone 5 from a carrier right now it would cost me $200 however if I wanted to buy one directly from Apple without any kind of contract it would run me 650 dollars this is called a subsidy in return for giving you a $450 discount on your brand-new phone the carrier will then ask you to sign a con

You pay a monthly fee and at the end of the lease period you dont actually own the phone outright. Although, you do have the choice of either returning it to the carrier and choosing a new phone, or paying out the remaining balance to buy the phone.
Switching Carriers When You Owe Money. If youve got an outstanding balance with your current carrier, theres good news: you can absolutely still switch phone companies. However, youll need to settle your balance before you do so. Typically, that means paying a final bill.
ATT doesnt currently pay off all or a portion of any termination fee, but it will give you a $250 bill credit per device you bring for your plan. This could go toward any cancellation fees or device payment plans you had with your prior provider.
Unless you purchased your phone outright or youve had it for a few years, youll likely have to pay it off. Any outstanding balance must be paid in full before switching carriers.
Your mobile provider could cut your phone off so youre unable to make or receive calls. If you dont take steps to deal with the debt, your account will default and the contract will be cancelled. The mobile provider can then take action to recover the outstanding bill, following the normal debt collection process.
You can switch carriers online or in person. Once youve activated your new service, your old account should automatically cancel. Youll receive a final bill, which may include an early termination fee if youre required to pay one, as well as any balance on your Device Payment Agreement.
Theres no doubt that a contract smartphone is cheaper over two years, and you get more for your money, but at the cost of flexibility.
Do not terminate your service with your existing company before initiating new service with another company. Contact the new company to start the process of porting your number. Provide the new company with your 10-digit phone number and any additional information required.
All three major cell phone carriersVerizon, T-Mobile, and ATTpay you to switch to their network. With monetary incentives for hopping mobile service providers and sweet device savings, rival companies constantly jostle to tempt new customers.
A cell phone contract is a commitment between a phone carrier and customer where the customer pays a single monthly fee for a fixed period of time (usually one-year or two-years). Most people enter cell phone contracts when they want to get a more expensive phone and pay it off over a longer period of time.
