in our previous videos weve learned a little bit about sgml XML and HTML and we know there are certain things that they have in common so lets try some XML but lets do it as HTML so we can get a bit of a validation of our approach so first of all Im going to start with just a normal text editor were gonna make a really simple file you could use Microsoft expression web you could use Visual Studio or any number of other great HTML editing tools but lets roll up our sleeves and try and figure this out just by writing a simple text document so first of all Im going to choose save as and Im going to save this as lets say index.html now let me put that in quotes because you see the save as type down here is text if I put this in quotes its going to save it literally as whats in quotes which is index.html I could change the save as type but sometimes its just easier to put the whole file name in quotes so there we go if nothing else youve just learned a really good shortcut now

First we need to have an XML file with valid XML. You also need to declare that the file is xml and provide a link to the stylesheet that will transform the XML. We can tell that the data is XML via line 1 in the xml document below: Line 1 tells the computer and us that the tags should be read as XML.
