The initial is a marking on the end of the page. For physical documentation, it is done by ink. Much like a signature, the initial is not something generic but rather, exclusive to the individual using it. Its a small personalisation to acknowledge you have read the page and agreed to the terms on it.
A contract signature page in procurement is an important part of the agreement process. It should include all relevant information, such as the parties involved, dates, payment terms and conditions, and any other special provisions that are relevant to the deal.
Although not a legal requirement, it is common practice for the parties to initial each page of the agreement. By doing so, this indicates each partys agreement to the provisions on each page and makes it harder (but not impossible) for the contract to be tampered with by replacing the pages.
The initials, sometimes defined as an abbreviated signature, are a handwritten sign added to each page of a signed document, with the exception of the page containing the signature itself. Often located in the bottom right-hand corner, it is generally composed of the initials of the signatories.
ANSWER: Initials arent required by law. They are merely some evidence that the initialed page is a part of the document being signed and that the initialing party has reviewed the page.
Contracts presented in electronic form, such as on a web page, may not have any clear concept of separate pages, and so page numbers would be pointless on such contracts. Page numbers on contracts printed out are common, but I do not know of any legal requirement for such numbers.
To initial on a document technically means to sign an abbreviated version of your signature on the document. Initialling means to authenticate or give preliminary approval to by affixing the initials of an authorizing representative, as per Merriam-Webster Law Dictionary.
