For example, you need a nanny for 45 hours a week and would pay $20 an hour with time and a half for overtime. Your nanny's compensation would be $950/week ($20 x 40 regular hours + $30 x 5 OT hours). The nanny would be paid this weekly rate as long as they didn't exceed 45 hours.

A 40 hour guarantee, otherwise known as a “Guaranteed Work Week,” is a clause in the contract that states the therapist will be paid for a full 40 hours each week, regardless of how many hours they actually work.
With guaranteed hours, a nanny who works 40 hours in a week gets paid for those hours at their agreed-upon hourly rate. Anything over those 40 hours would be paid at an overtime rate.
Guaranteed hours are the set number of hours your nanny will be paid each week at their hourly rate. It can be 35, 40, 45, or whatever number of hours you need for childcare during a week. As long as they work the number of agreed-upon hours – or fewer – they get paid the same.
It is industry standard to pay your nanny while you are away, and many nanny contracts use words like “guaranteed hours” or “salary” which would then likely obligate you to pay your nanny her regular weekly wage while you're away. It is also common to see families and nannies coordinate vacations.
If there's no notice period specified, 2 to 6 weeks notice is a good rule of thumb. Give as much notice as you can so the parents aren't pressured to find a replacement nanny right away.
Be honest. Tell your nanny exactly why they're being fired. Mention that you've addressed and documented past issues and you're still unsatisfied with their job performance. Be concise and stick to the facts.
Tell your nanny. If she's not being terminated immediately you'll want to set up a meeting to discuss her termination when the children are not present. You may wish to consider telling her on the last day of her workweek so that she has time to process the information before returning to work.
For a regular annual raise based on a general cost-of-living increase, 3-5% is appropriate. If you want to use your raise as a way to communicate that you adore your nanny, the higher range or beyond is a good way to go. (Some families choose to signal that appreciation as a nanny holiday bonus instead.)
