This video is going to be an introduction to set-builder notation. So there are basically two ways to write a set. One way is just to list all the elements of the set inside curly braces. So if I have a set with just the four elements, 1, 2, 3, 4, I can write capital A -- well call this set A -- capital A equals and then, inside braces, 1, 2, 3, and 4, separated by commas. If I want to have all the numbers starting at 1, all the natural numbers, and continuing infinitely, I could write three dots, what we call an ellipsis, and that would mean I start at 1 and I just count -- if I could -- up to infinity. The other way to write this would be in set-builder notation. So what Im going to do is write something like this. Ill put in a capital A, that the name of the set, put in the equal sign, the left curly brace, and then Im gonna pick a letter. Very often the letter will be a lower-case x, but actually it could be any letter you want, typically lower-case though, so were not conf

Equal Rights: The Most Important Section of the Charter.
The Charter of Rights and Freedoms (the Charter) protects basic rights and freedoms that are essential to keeping Canada a free and democratic society. It is a powerful force for progress, protection, and fairness with the power to influence our society by interpreting laws and policies.
Section 7 of the Charter requires a two-step analysis to determine whether legislation or other state action infringes a protected Charter right: (i) is there an infringement of the right to "life, liberty and security of the person"; and (ii) if so, is the infringement contrary to the principles of fundamental justice ...
Article 2(4) prohibits the use of force, but makes an exception for armed force permitted within that structure. That structure generally requires the Security Council to authorize armed force, but makes an exception for self-defense if an armed attack occurs before the Security Council takes necessary measures.
However, government action that harms these rights is not enough to violate the Charter. Section 7 is violated only when the government infringes these rights in a way that goes against the principles of fundamental justice.
The Security Council shall determine the existence of any threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression and shall make recommendations, or decide what measures shall be taken in ance with Articles 41 and 42, to maintain or restore international peace and security.
7. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in ance with the principles of fundamental justice. Section 7 guarantees the life, liberty and personal security of all Canadians.
Examples of Charter-related cases Right to be secure against unreasonable search and seizure. ... Fundamental justice when claiming refugee status. ... Right to religious freedom in a democratic state. ... People can only be imprisoned based on reasonable and fair laws. ... The right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Table of Contents 1 - Guarantee of Rights and Freedoms. 2 - Fundamental Freedoms. 3 - Democratic Rights. 6 - Mobility Rights. 7 - Legal Rights. 15 - Equality Rights. 16 - Official Languages of Canada. 23 - Minority Language Educational Rights.
Section 1 of the Charter is often referred to as the “reasonable limits clause” because it is the section that can be used to justify a limitation on a person's Charter rights. Charter rights are not absolute and can be infringed if the courts determine that the infringement is reasonably justified.
