okay so I want to show you how to open a comma separated values file in Excel so that you dont lose all the information so I have this file in Excel where it has these huge ID numbers and Ive saved them as text fields and because Ive saved this in Excel format the dot xlsx format Excel remembers these are text field so if I close this file its called file with big numbers and I open it again magic it looks perfectly good but if I open the CSV the comma separated value version of it youll see there we go youll see the data looks funny right the ID numbers seem to have been interpreted in some sort of scientific notation and thats good no good for my purposes so heres what you need to do if you want to get the original text file type format back what Im going to do is Im gonna say file new and Im gonna make a new blank workbook and then what Im gonna do is Im gonna save file from a text file and Im going to take in the file with big numbers dot CSV and lets say import and

One of the most common CSV import errors is that the file is simply too large. That can be caused by too many fields or records in the file, too many columns, or too many rows. The import error can be caused by limits set by the program using the file or the amount of available memory on the system.
Instead, this is due to the way Excel and other spreadsheet programs open a CSV file and display the data therein. Basically, spreadsheet programs are designed to be used for calculation purposes, so they tend to apply mathematical formats to numbers when the CSV file is opened directly into the program.
To preserve all the digits in text-formatted numbers, you have to import the downloaded CSV file as raw data into a new Excel spreadsheet, set the column datatypes as needed, and then save the new file as an Excel workbook. Excel (XLSX) files will preserve these formats, CSV files won't.
Here are some possible reasons why Excel might be rounding off numbers: The column width is not enough to accommodate all the numbers, so Excel ends up rounding numbers so that it can fit the final value in the cell that it can display completely.
