Youll put the senders name and return address on the top left corner and the recipients name and mailing address in the lower center. And youll typically place a stamp on it in the top right corner. All these generally go on the same flat side of the envelope.
Your full name should be on the first line. Your full address, including postcode, should be underneath this (using separate lines for each new line of your address). Your email address should then be immediately underneath this. The date (writing the month and year in full) should immediately follow beneath this.
Formal letters begin with Dear and the name of the person receiving your letter. If you dont know the name, write the job title or department. Only use To Whom It May Concern as a last resort. The most common formal letter format is block style: single space and left justify each paragraph.
The format of a formal letter typically includes the senders address, date, recipients address, salutation, body paragraphs, closing, and the senders signature. It is important to maintain a professional tone and adhere to standard conventions in formatting a formal letter.
Write your first and last name in the upper lefthand corner of the letter. Use the full, unabbreviated form of your name anytime youre writing a formal or professional letter.
If it is headed up by a block, with name, usually leading with title (Mr) then the name, with the address on the next line, then a date, then after two or more line spaces, a formal letter will say Dear Mr Carter.
The senders name and address generally go in the top left corner of the envelope. The recipients name and address should be in the lower center of the envelope. Any postage goes in the top right corner of the envelope.
