Light in photography refers to how the light source, natural or artificial and how the position of light source relates to your subject. The position and quality of light can affect any number of things in your final image, from clarity to tone to emotion and so much more.
Motivated lighting is the technique used to imitate or accentuate existing light sources. Motivated light is commonly described as light within a shot that can be justified. This approach to lighting allows the audience to believe the world that they are seeing.
And here are four common ways to position your studio light for portrait photography. Classic 45-degree light. This studio portrait photography lighting setup is the most basic one that beginner photographers start with. Side lighting for dramatic portraits. Butterfly lighting. Backlighting.
Lighting holds immense power in shaping a films visual narrative, though it often goes unappreciated. The right lighting breathes life into scenes, enhances the intended mood, and reveals character traits and narrative themes. In addition, it plays an indispensable role in establishing time and location.
The most basic lighting in film is the three-point lighting setup. Lighting from three directions shapes your subject and sets them apart from their background. To achieve this, your film lighting equipment needs to face your subject from three directions: front, back and side (generally).
The lights should be at 45 angles from the art and camera. Use the standing lights with the umbrella diffuser attachments for soft, even light. This is an overhead view of optimal lighting setup. Note that the exact angle may be adjusted to accommodate various surfaces and reflectivity in your artwork.
The most common and versatile setup is the three-point lighting, which uses one key light, one fill light, and one back light. To achieve this, you need to place your key light at a 45-degree angle from your subject, your fill light at the opposite 45-degree angle, and your back light behind and above your subject.
