The Exposure Triangle comprises aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. These three camera and lens controls work together to regulate the amount of light that makes it to the light-sensitive surface (aperture and shutter speed) and the sensitivity of that surface (film or digital ISO).
The most common and versatile setup is the three-point lighting, which uses one key light, one fill light, and one back light. To achieve this, you need to place your key light at a 45-degree angle from your subject, your fill light at the opposite 45-degree angle, and your back light behind and above your subject.
3 point video lighting is all about creating a three-dimensional look. By placing three light sources at strategic points around the subject, each light source illuminates a separate dimension of the subject and creates an image with greater representation of height, width, and depth.
The key light, backlight, and fill light all make up the three-point lighting setup. Three-point lighting is a standard method used in visual media. By using three separate positions, the cinematographer can illuminate the subject any way they want while also controlling shadows produced by direct lighting.
A three-point lighting setup A second fill light removes this contrast. The fill light is placed somewhere on the opposite side of the product to fill in the shadows. A third back light is placed somewhere behind the subject. Backlighting separates the subject from the background.
Three-Point Lighting Basics The key provides the main source of light on your subject; the fill controls the contrast between the left and right sides of the face; and the backlight provides some exposure on your subject from behind, to help separate him or her from the background.
Here are the steps: Choose a location for your three-point lighting system. Be sure there is enough space. Place your key light in front of the subject and at least 3 feet away. Position your fill light to the side of the subject at a 45-degree angle. Place your backlight behind the subject and 3-feet away.
You place two lights on either side of the product the back-right, back-left combinations bring out the best results, but you can always experiment to get a better shot. If you only have two lights, you will have nothing to use as your front light.
