The default limit for the maximum number of custom indexes is 20. Custom indexes can be used as a tool to assist with slowness or time-outs in certain situations.
A Custom Index cant be created on these types of fields: Multi-select Picklists. Currency fields in a Multicurrency Organization. Long text fields. Binary fields (fields of type blob, file, or encrypted text).
A Custom Index cant be created on these types of fields: Multi-select Picklists. Currency fields in a Multicurrency Organization. Long text fields. Binary fields (fields of type blob, file, or encrypted text).
We have some fields which are indexed by default in Salesforce, which are : Name , ID , Owner fields , Master-detail relationship fields , Lookup fields , Last modified dates , Audit dates.
Identifying Salesforce fields that have an index When youre designing filters for a report, list view, or SOQL query, you can confirm that your filter condition fields have indexes by checking the field lists on an objects detail page. Notice that the Indexed column clearly indicates whether a field has an index.
Defining Custom Big Objects Click. and select Setup. Enter Big Objects in the Quick Find box, then select Big Objects. Create a big object and add some basic details. Add custom fields. They store the data on your big object. Add an index. Save the big object and change the status to Deployed.
Formula fields are only evaluated when the record is actually opened and cannot be indexed for that reason. You can populate a lookup field from another object or using workflow you can populate a text field. Unless somethings recently changed, (some) formula fields can be indexed by request to Salesforce Support.
Salesforce also supports custom indexes on custom fields, except for multi-select picklists, text areas (long), text areas (rich), non-deterministic formula fields, and encrypted text fields. External IDs cause an index to be created on that field. The query optimizer then considers those fields.
Two-column custom indexes are a specialized feature of the Salesforce platform. Theyre useful for list views and situations where you want to use one field to select records to display and another field to sort them.
Click the Field Name for the field that you want to index. Under Field Properties, click the General tab. In the Indexed property, click Yes (Duplicates OK) if you want to allow duplicates, or Yes (No Duplicates) to create a unique index. To save your changes, click Save on the Quick Access Toolbar, or press CTRL+S.
