Now water content is further increased the value of liquidity index becomes greater than 1 and that indicates soil is in liquid state and behaves like liquid. At water content lower than plastic limit, soil is relatively harder and brittle in nature.
The liquidity index (LI) is used for scaling the natural water content of a soil sample to the limits. It can be calculated as a ratio of difference between natural water content, plastic limit, and liquid limit: LI=(W-PL)/(LL-PL) where W is the natural water content.
Use the following steps to calculate the liquidity index: Multiply the ending trade receivables balance by the average collection period. Multiply the ending inventory balance by the average inventory liquidation period. Summarize the first two items and divide by the total of all trade receivables and inventory.
Creditors and investors like to see higher liquidity ratios, such as 2 or 3. The higher the ratio is, the more likely a company is able to pay its short-term bills. A ratio of less than 1 means the company faces a negative working capital and can be experiencing a liquidity crisis.
The liquidity index calculates the days required to convert a companys trade receivables and inventory into cash. The index is used to estimate the ability of a business to generate the cash needed to meet its current liabilities. It is commonly used by credit analysts to evaluate the creditworthiness of customers.
A companys liquidity indicates its ability to pay debt obligations, or current liabilities, without having to raise external capital or take out loans. High liquidity means that a company can easily meet its short-term debts while low liquidity implies the opposite and that a company could imminently face bankruptcy.
The current ratio is a liquidity ratio that measures a companys ability to cover its short-term obligations with its current assets.
Banks and financial institutions should attempt to achieve a liquidity coverage ratio of 3% or more. In most cases, banks will maintain a higher level of capital to give themselves more of a financial cushion.
