In this lecture, Im going to show you how you can use index and match to solve complex lookup problems. The thing with INDEX and MATCH is that its not a VLOOKUP, its much better than a VLOOKUP. And you are going to come across situations or youve probably come already across situations where VLOOKUP just wasnt working. It couldnt do the lookup that you wanted, because your lookup problem was too complex. Thats exactly when index and match can come to the rescue. It was difficult for me to start using index and match. Just like a habit, I had to force myself at the beginning to use it until I got the hang of it. Now, what Im going in this lecture is first, to explain to you how index works in easy terms. And then Im going to show you how match works. And then were going to put these together. So, the example I have is list of divisions, apps, revenue, and profits. The aim of our formula is that we want someone to select an app here, so lets say Misty Wash and we want to get

In order to set index to column in pandas DataFrame use resetindex() method. By using this you can also set single, multiple indexes to a column. If you are not aware by default, pandas adds an index to each row of the pandas DataFrame.
Pandas rename() method is used to rename any index, column or row. Syntax: rename(mapper=None, index=None, columns=None, axis=None, copy=True, inplace=False, level=None) Parameters: Return Type: Data frame with new names.
To create indexes, use the CREATE INDEX command: -- syntax create index indexname on tablename(column1, column2, .., columnN); -- create index on one column create index productscategory on products(category); -- create index on multiple columns create index productscategorybrand on products(category, brandid);
To change the index values we need to use the setindex method which is available in pandas allows specifying the indexes.Syntax inplace parameter accepts True or False, which specifies that change in index is permanent or temporary. True indicates that change is Permanent. False indicates that the change is Temporary.
Create the index Click where you want to add the index. On the References tab, in the Index group, click Insert Index. In the Index dialog box, you can choose the format for text entries, page numbers, tabs, and leader characters. You can change the overall look of the index by choosing from the Formats dropdown menu.
Steps to Set Column as Index in Pandas DataFrame Step 1: Create the DataFrame. To start with a simple example, lets say that youd like to create a DataFrame given the following data: Step 2: Set a single column as Index in Pandas DataFrame. Step 3 (optional): Set multiple columns as MultiIndex:
The setindex() function is used to set the DataFrame index using existing columns. Set the DataFrame index (row labels) using one or more existing columns or arrays of the correct length. The index can replace the existing index or expand on it.
One simple way to set an index to a column is by assigning an index as a new column to pandas DataFrame. DataFrame. index property returns a Series object of an index, assign this to DataFrame as shown below which creates a new column with index value on DataFrame.
You can get the row number of the Pandas DataFrame using the df. index property. Using this property we can get the row number of a certain value based on a particular column. If you want to get the number of rows you can use the len(df.
