What is good EGT for diesel?

When dealing with a diesel vehicle, your EGT is a critical factor in its performance. Generally speaking, the lower your EGT, the better. At Manta Performance, we recommend that your EGT stay under 550C (as measured at the turbo outlet) to assure your engines safety.

What should my EGT temp be?

It should be noted that when the EGT is measured after the turbine, the turbine outlet temperature at full throttle or under a heavy load typically would be circa 100 Deg C.

What does EGT gauge tell you?

EGT is an indication of how hot the combustion process is in the cylinders, and the amount of afterburning that is occurring in the exhaust manifold. EGT is also directly related to the air/fuel ratio. The richer the air/fuel ratio in a diesel, the higher the EGT will be.

Is EGT gauge necessary?

Why is EGT important? Because if your in-cylinder temperatures get too hot, you can melt pistons, crack heads, destroy turbos, and create general havoc within your engine. A diesel needs a certain amount of heat to run, but high EGT should definitely be avoided.

Does EGT gauge need power?

An analog EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) probe is essentially a temperature detector that that works without electricity because it relies on thermocouplers.

What temp is safe for EGT?

For towing, wed say 1,200 degrees is a safe number, with occasional spikes of up to 1,400 degrees when climbing grades being an acceptable risk.

Do I need an EGT Gauge?

Tuning and EGT Gauges If you are playing with fuel/air ratio, fitting a larger turbo or running higher boost, a quality EGT Gauge is a must. Without it, you may find that the engine runs too hot and does damage.
