Type in the formula bar: =LOOKUP(letter,Af:Bl) Replace letter with the letter that represents the value you want to insert into the cell. Replace Af with the first cell that holds a letter and Bl with the last cell that holds a value.
To assign a value to a drop-down list item to be used in another sheet, you can use the VLOOKUP function. This formula will look up the type name in cell A2, find its associated markup value in the second sheet, and display it in the current cell. You can then use this markup value to calculate the retail price.
To start, go to the Insert tab and select Symbol. Youll find Greek letters, subscripts, superscripts and chemical elements. Word is also versatile. You can insert individual symbols and entire equations with the equation editor.
First, you construct a text string representing a cell reference. For this, you concatenate a letter and number 1. Then, you hand off the string to the INDIRECT function to convert it into an actual Excel reference. Finally, you pass the reference to the COLUMN function to get the column number.
The letter is called the variable. In algebra, our goal is to find out what number can replace the variable to make the equation true. In the example above, we know that 3 + 7 = 10. So the answer would be x = 7. (Replacing the x with a 7 makes the equation true.)
Select Insert Equation or press Alt + =. To use a built-in formula, select Design Equation.
If these are just 2 or 3 cells in Excel where you want to convert numbers to string, benefit from adding an apostrophe before the number. This will instantly change the number format to text. Just double-click in a cell and enter the apostrophe before the numeric value.
