[Music] [Applause] hello welcome to my latest video this is a short video on using conditionals to set facts so enhanceable like any other programming language at some point youre going to want a variable for something this is fairly simple to do when its just just the one value but if we need to pick that value from the server that were running it its against it can get a bit trickier so for example im running my playbook and roll against lister servers i need to identify which data sensor that server is in so that i can apply the name servers the time servers the correct nfs mounts you know or anything else i also want my code to run on all the servers in the list set that fact individually for each server to something thats unique to the server and then apply my configuration so in this video im going to try to generate a static fact then how to use conditionals a conditional statement to set the fact and then how to combine all those facts into a string and im only going to

What is the difference between fact and variable in Ansible?

Variables related to remote systems are called facts. With facts, you can use the behavior or state of one system as configuration on other systems. For example, you can use the IP address of one system as a configuration value on another system. Variables related to Ansible are called magic variables.

How do I change the default value of a variable in Ansible?

It is a built-in feature of Ansible to use the default variable if the variable is not defined. So if you want to define a default value for a variable you should set it in role/defaults/main. yml . Ansible will use that value only if the variable is not defined somewhere else.

What is the use of setfact?

The setfact module takes key=value pairs or key: value (YAML notation) as variables to set in the playbook scope. The key is the resulting variable name and the value is, of course, the value of said variable. You can create multiple variables at once, by supplying multiple pairs, but do NOT mix notations.

What is the difference between Vars and setfact?

Ansible setfact is different from vars, varsfile, or includevar where you know the variable value beforehand, whereas when using setfact, we can store the value after preparing it on the fly using certain task like using filters or taking subpart of another variable.

What is the difference between setfact and register in Ansible?

Apart from the fact that setfact is a task on its own and register captures the result of a task, is there any difference between the resulting variables scope or lifecycle (or anything else) for example.

What indicates an abnormal Pap smear?

An abnormal result means that cell changes were found on your cervix. This usually does not mean that you have cervical cancer. Abnormal changes on your cervix are likely caused by HPV. The changes may be minor (low-grade) or serious (high-grade).

What is a fact about Pap?

Testing (cervical cancer screening) should start at age 21 years. Women ages 21-29 years should have a Pap test every 3 years. Women ages 30-65 years should have a Pap test and an HPV test (called co-testing) every 5 years. It is ok to have only a Pap test without the HPV test every 3 years.

This module allows setting new variables. Variables are set on a host-by-host basis just like facts discovered by the setup module. These variables will be available to subsequent plays during an ansible-playbook run.
