There are four basic informational text types: literary nonfiction, expository writing, argumentative writing (also known as persuasive writing), and procedural writing. Each of these four types of informational text can be found in a variety of lengths and styles as well as print and digital media.

So those are the four types of informative writing. What is a text set? Text sets are intentionally grouped sets of texts and media resources focused on a specific topic designed to help all learners build background knowledge and vocabulary through a volume of reading on science, social studies, and other high-interest topics.
Vocabulary. Main Idea: The topic or big idea that an informational text is written about. Key Details: Important pieces of information that support the main idea of a text.
Importance of Details When discussing reading comprehension, think of details as the individual features, facts or particulars in the text. These details are essential to develop reading comprehension.
The main idea answers the question, What does the author want me to know about the topic? or What is the author teaching me? Often the author states the main idea in a single sentence. In paragraphs, a stated main idea is called the topic sentence.
The main reading skill employed is scanning. This involves moving very quickly over the text, ignoring unknown vocabulary and focusing solely on key words, phrases and ideas. Scanning should enable you to find the specific information. Then read that part more carefully to get a full understanding.
Look at the title of the text, as well as any pictures or headings included. Read the first and last sentence of the passage. Note any words or phrases that are repeated throughout the text. Summarize the text as best you can in one sentence.
