Standard indentation of 0.5 is applied to block quotations, and if the quote runs to more than one paragraph, you must indent the first line of the second and subsequent paragraphs by a further 0.5. The entries in an APA reference list should have a hanging indent of 0.5.
One simple way to indent text is to place the cursor at the start of a paragraph and hit the tab key on your keyboard. In Microsoft Word, this adds a 0.5 (1.27cm) indent at the left margin.
By default, every time you press the Tab key, the insertion point will move 1/2 inch to the right.
There are general, indentation, and spacing options available in the Paragraph dialog box options. At the bottom of the dialog box, you can see a Preview of how the options will look before you apply them. Choose Left to align text to the left with a ragged right edge (or use the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl+L).
