in this lesson were going to continue talking about data steps and specifically were going to deal with modifying and concatenating SAS data sets using the set statement we want to again talk about the set statement in a data step for the purpose of modifying an existing data set and we also want to discuss how to concatenate or stack multiple SAS data sets on top of each other that would be done in a situation where you have data sets that contain different study participants but quite often the same or similar variables so a big overall overview of programming fundamentals and a reminder of what aspect were talking about in this particular lesson we use statements and those statements build either procedures or data steps and here were going to be talking specifically about data steps and how they can be used to modify or stack SAS data sets weve seen this overview slide before that just walks us through the sort of a visual representation of getting from original non SAS or raw

After you add a table to an UPDATE statement in the SQL Query Builder, you can create a SET clause. The SET clause specifies the columns to update and the new values for the columns.
SQL clauses CONSTRAINT clause. FOR UPDATE clause. FROM clause. GROUP BY clause. HAVING clause. ORDER BY clause. The result offset and fetch first clauses. USING clause.
The SET command is used with UPDATE to specify which columns and values that should be updated in a table.
The SET clause consists of two expressions: the target expression and the new-value expression. The target expression returns the items to be updated. Notice that a target item may be atomic or complex, and it will always be nested inside a complex item (its parent item).
+= (Addition Assignment) (Transact-SQL) Adds two numbers and sets a value to the result of the operation. For example, if a variable @x equals 35, then @x += 2 takes the original value of @x, add 2 and sets @x to that new value (37).
A SET is a string object that can have zero or more values, each of which must be chosen from a list of permitted values specified when the table is created. SET column values that consist of multiple set members are specified with members separated by commas ( , ).
For the single-table syntax, the UPDATE statement updates columns of existing rows in the named table with new values. The SET clause indicates which columns to modify and the values they should be given. Each value can be given as an expression, or the keyword DEFAULT to set a column explicitly to its default value.
First, specify the table name that you want to change data in the UPDATE clause. Second, assign a new value for the column that you want to update. In case you want to update data in multiple columns, each column = value pair is separated by a comma (,). Third, specify which rows you want to update in the WHERE clause.
