AFP Format (AFP/PTOCA/MODCA/IM1) AFP (Advanced Function Presentation) format is part of IBMs document imaging system. It is a raster format, created to add enhanced formatting and indexing capabilities to documents for print applications in finance, retail, insurance and other industries.
A font, in the modern sense of the word, is computer code for rendering (displaying) characters in a particular shape, as specific glyphs. Internally, a font uses glyph indexes but also index numbers based on a character set.
Select to Open the file, then specify to use the AFP Workbench viewer .exe (ex: C:\Program Files (x86)\RICOH\AFP Workbench\ftdwinvw.exe). You can also select to do this every time when a file of this type is Opened to be viewed.
AFP defines native text, image, graphics and bar code objects that can be combined to create page content and provides a means for managing fonts, overlays and other resource objects such as ICC profiles for color management. AFP can encapsulate other standard document formats such as TIFF, JPEG and PDF.
Character sets used today in the US are generally 8-bit sets with 256 different characters, effectively doubling the ASCII set.
A group of characters (for example, alphabetic characters, ideographs, symbols, punctuation marks, and control characters) can be encoded as a character set. An encoded character set assigns a unique numeric code to each character in the character set. The numeric codes are called code points or encoded values.
Examples of character sets include International EBCDIC, Latin 1, and Unicode. Character sets are chosen on the basis of the letters and symbols required. Character sets are referred to by a name or by an integer identifier called the coded character set identifier (CCSID).
Standard character set. The standard (default) character set used by High Level Assembler is a subset of the EBCDIC character set. This subset consists of letters of the alphabet, national characters, the underscore character, digits, and special characters.
All fonts use a character set. A character set contains punctuation marks, numerals, uppercase and lowercase letters, and all other printable characters. Each element of a character set is identified by a number.
UTF-8 extends the ASCII character set to use 8-bit code points, which allows for up to 256 different characters. This means that UTF-8 can represent all of the printable ASCII characters, as well as the non-printable characters.
