The only case when you can see negative result is if you bought the stock and the price declined. For example, you bought Walmart stock at $157 and it fell to $150. Then you will see in your account -5% for this stock. It doesnt mean that you lost money, you fix the loss only if you sell it.
An arrow pointing up or down will indicate whether a stock is trading higher or lower than the previous days closing price. If a stock is trading higher than the previous end of day trading price, the arrow will point up. If a stock is trading lower than the closing price the day before, the arrow will point down.
