Schedule the date at least four weeks in advance. Suggest several different dates to help ensure you get the church and clergy member you want for the baptism. Coordinate dates with loved ones if you absolutely want them to attend, especially godparents or sponsors.
You should send invitations at least three to four weeks before the baptism. For guests who need to travel from out of town or if the baptism is on a holiday like Easter you should give more notice to ensure theres enough time for travel planning. Include an RSVP card so you can keep track of who is attending.
Parents of the person being baptized. Siblings of the person being baptized. Godparents or sponsors of the person being baptized. Very close family members such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Send out invitations to guests at least two months before the baptism, to give people time to respond to the invitation. Most churches are fine with guests from outside their congregation attending the service.
Here are a few things you should include on your baptism invitation: Full name of the child being baptized. Names of the parents, godparents, and grandparents of the child. Names of the hosts of the baptism if its not the parents. Date and time of the baptism. The location of the baptism.
If the person is an adult, then tell them that youre happy for them. If you can go, then attend their baptism. Thank them for inviting you, and be the safe person that the person being baptized thinks you are. You can still give them a congratulations card.
