Minor characters. These are the other characters in a story. They are not as important as the major characters, but still play a large part in the story. Their actions help drive the story forward.
Many people roll from a random chart to determine a characters age, others simply pick an age that is right on the cusp of adulthood for that particular race. Thus, you find many humans who are 17-18 when they begin their adventuring careers and dwarves who start out at the budding young age of 55.
Three Ways to Show a Characters Age Just Say (or Think) It. Just Suggest It. If stating the age outright wont work or feels awkward no matter what you do, try leaving clues that suggest the age of the character. Location can play a big role, as can clothing or accessories. Show the Context. Context is king.
Middle-grade characters that serve as protagonists are typically aged 10-12 and YA protagonists can be anywhere from 14-18, but most commonly 16-18.
Three Ways to Show a Characters Age Just Say (or Think) It. In conversations: Age come up in conversations, and when it does, it makes sense for a character to share how old he or she is. Just Suggest It. Show the Context.
Your main character should be the person in your story with the most to struggle against, and the most to learn. Their struggle, and their growth, is what ultimately proves your storys point. They should begin with a false belief about how the world works, called the misbelief or the internal obstacle.
Youll ideally want to make your protagonist somewhere between 13 and 19 and the exact age will depend on several factors: Does the story require your protagonist to be at a particular stage in their education, e.g. starting a new school, taking exams or applying for university?
Use numerals for ages when more than two words would be needed to spell out the age (2.127): Born in 1922, Wallace will be 101 in October.
