Presently, there are basically two types of polygraph examinations used in the security clearance process today: (1) the Counterintelligence Polygraph examination (CI Polygraph) and (2) the Lifestyle Polygraph examination (Lifestyle Polygraph).
The Lifestyle polygraph asks more personal questions designed to solicit information about your conduct and present and past behavior. A Full Scope polygraph combines the CI and Lifestyle polygraphs.
Most attorneys would advise that you should never submit to a police or employer polygraph without the guidance of your own legal counsel. A polygraph test is when a polygraph examiner asks you questions to determine if you are telling the truth. The test is also known as a lie detector test.
Lifestyle Polygraph The candidate is asked questions concerning their personal life and conduct and can involve all aspects of present and past behavior. Questions asked might concern drug and alcohol use, sexual misconduct, mental health, family relationships, compulsive or addictive behavior and more.
During the polygraph test, two pneumographs are attached to the subject, one around their chest and the other around their abdominal area. GSR the galvanic skin response is a protruding electrode which is used to determine the changes in a subjects anxiety.
The counterintelligence polygraph focuses on whether you pose a threat to turning into an agent of a foreign power, whereas, a lifestyle polygraph focuses more on your decision making process and whether any of your decisions could subject you to blackmail in the future.
