You will be able to see when recommenders have submitted their letters of recommendation, but you wont be able to read them unless the author consents to sharing the letter with you.
Submit your requests for letters by clicking the Submit Request buttons in your account. Your recommender will receive an email requesting that they complete and upload a letter for you. However, if your recommender prefers, LSAC also accepts paper letters of recommendation. This is important.
Here are 10 steps for how to write a law school recommendation letter: Ask the candidate for information. Include a topic sentence. Mention your qualifications. Describe your relationship to the candidate. Discuss examples of the candidates skills. Compare the candidate to others in the field.
Including your full name in the letter will help ensure that it is added promptly to your application file. Letters may be submitted by mail or in person. Recommenders may also email their letters to the appropriate school counselor.
As long as you have assigned the letter to your schools and LSAC receives it before the application submission deadlines, LSAC will forward the letter to your schools.
Schools vary on the number of letters of recommendation they require, so make sure to check each schools requirements in LSAC. Typically, two-four letters are required, meaning schools most commonly require two letters but will accept up to four.
You should give the writer 2-4 weeks notice to write the letter. You may submit applications before LSAC has the letter on file, but if a law school requires letters of recommendation your file will not be deemed complete without the minimum number of letters, and your application will not be reviewed without them.
It takes approximately two weeks to process a transcript and up to five business days to process a paper letter of recommendation from the time we receive it. Electronic letters of recommendation are usually available as soon as we receive them.
