To receive the cargo, the buyer (also referred to as consignee on the Bill of Lading) will need to present the Original Bill of Lading, or when we, as Twill receive the order from the supplier (also referred to as shipper on the Bill of Lading) to Telex Release the shipment to the consignee.
A bill of lading also serves as a shipment receipt when the carrier delivers the goods at a predetermined destination. This document must accompany the shipped products, no matter the form of transportation, and must be signed by an authorized representative from the carrier, shipper, and receiver.
Bills of lading are normally provided to: The shipper; A broker, freight forwarder or a third party managing customs; and. The consignee this is the person who purchased the goods in the first place.
In the end, a BOL can be created by one of three entities: the shipper, the carrier or the 3PL working on the shippers behalf. Oftentimes a shipper will prefer to use their own BOL generated through their ERP system as it can be super specific and customized to what they need.
Bills of Lading must be with the goods on every part of the journey and must be signed by authorized parties from the shipper and carrier. At the moment of collection the carrier will be given the Bill Lading and when the goods are delivered it will be handed to the final destination consignee.
This document must be surrendered to the carrier. As long as the shipper retains the original bills, they may receive payment prior to the release of the originals to the consignee or buyer.
MBL is issued by a carrier and represents the legal contract for the carriage of goods from one destination to another. Once the carrier receives the goods, it would issue the document to the party that booked the freight, the freight forwarder or shipper.
Original Bill of Lading: The Bill of Lading is the primary document used in sea transport. It functions as a contract of carriage, transport goods receipt and a document of title affording ownership.
