If you need your title sooner, instant, or same day, title service is available at all Secretary of State offices. The vehicle owner must appear in person for instant title service. You cannot appoint an agent to represent you for an instant title transaction.
A title is required before the transaction can be completed, and it may be necessary to apply for a duplicate title. There are several ways to accomplish this: a) The vehicle owner can apply for a duplicate title and reassign it to the dealer.
If you need to replace your Michigan vehicle title, apply for a duplicate title through your online Secretary of State account. Duplicate titles cost $15. If you have a lien on your vehicle, the title will be sent to your lienholder.
Any non-electronic liens attached to an electronic title may be released at a Secretary of State office once the customer provides the appropriate paperwork documenting that the lien is fully paid. Electronic liens can only be released electronically by the lienholder.
