i was inspired by the latest m365 ama panel with sherry oswald kirsty mcgrath and christian buckley talking about can you rest editing access for columns in a sharepoint list and i have an alternate approach for you to consider our example scenario is that we have a product team and a sales team and they want to create a centralized place to track product offerings price and sales now ill pause here just to say i dont recommend building this in sharepoint online necessarily there are a lot of off-the-shelf systems that could probably better support product and order management but i want to use this as a simple example the product team should not have access to edit the orders and the sales team should not have access to edit the products or price so the product and sales team came to me and said we created a list in our team site and we want to put in the purchase order number the quantity the title of the product and the cost but again we only want the product team to be able to e

Column-level security simplifies the design and coding of security in your application, allowing you to restrict column access to protect sensitive data. For example, ensuring that specific users can access only certain columns of a table pertinent to their department.
Currently, Column-level Security includes two features: Dynamic Data Masking. The masking policy is applied to the column regardless of where in a SQL expression the column is referenced, including: Projections. JOIN predicates. WHERE clause predicates. ORDER BY and GROUP BY clauses.
Column-level Security in Snowflake allows the application of a masking policy to a column within a table or view. Currently, Column-level Security comprises two features: Dynamic Data Masking. External ization.
Some examples of how column-level security is being used today: A financial services firm allows only account managers to have access to customer social security numbers (SSN), phone numbers, and other personal data.
Row and column access control is a Db2 security solution that uses SQL to control access to a table at the level of a row, a column, or both. Traditionally, access control at the row and column level is implemented through views.
You can use row-level and column-level access control to restrict access to certain types of information that require additional security. Row-level and column-level access controls can help you to protect sensitive information and comply with government regulations for security and privacy.
Row-Level Security vs Column-Level Security Row-Level Security restricts data access at the row level, whereas Column-Level Security restricts access at the column level. For example, only salesmen in New York city can see sales of this city is an example of RLS because New York is a value (row) in the City Dimension.
There are many advantages to implementing data security at the row level, instead of at higher levels. The most obvious is that you can then store data that has different security requirements in the same databases or tables, instead of segregating that data into separate databases or tables.
