Server-side validation: More secure than client-side validation, cannot be bypassed by malicious users, and protects the server from attack. However, it does not provide instant feedback to the user, can increase server load, and may be more difficult to implement complex validation rules.
The disadvantages of server-side validation include the following: User response time is affected because of the additional request/response message exchange with a remote server. Valid options are not immediately obvious to the user.
A typical example is a user registration form. While a username may follow the client-side criteria for a valid username, newcomers wont know whether their registration will be successful until the server performs checks determining the uniqueness of the username against all existing users.
The validation starts with the Express Module, which takes in your end-users input. Before it runs, the Express Module sends its information to the API Module using an API call. The API Module then sends the data to the Validation Module using its own API call.
Cons of SSR: Server load: SSR can lead to increased server load, especially with a high volume of requests. Limited interactivity: Complex client-side interactions might require additional effort to implement. Full-page reloads: Any interaction that requires server-side processing may trigger a full page reload.
However, client-side validation also has some drawbacks, such as being bypassed by disabling or manipulating the browser settings or scripts, being inconsistent across different browsers, devices, and platforms, and being complex and time-consuming to implement and maintain.
Server side processing typically requires a roundtrip to the server for each user action, limiting real-time interactivity and responsiveness. Server side processing may require more complex development and setup compared to client side processing, potentially increasing development time and effort.
When you enter data, the browser and/or the web server will check to see that the data is in the correct format and within the constraints set by the application. Validation done in the browser is called client-side validation, while validation done on the server is called server-side validation.
