[MUSIC PLAYING] ABBY RANDALL: An Exit Ticket is a short assessment given at the end of class that the students must complete before they can leave class for the day. So on a scrap piece of paper please put your name. These are Exit Tickets. Exit Tickets can be anything from a prepared one or two question little quiz that youve typed up or written, or it can be as simple as throwing a question up on the overhead and giving them scrap paper and having them solve it. They like the routine. They know exactly what to do. They know, at the end of the day, theyre going to be held accountable. Its a really quick way for me to assess if students learned the concept of the day. I often use it as the you-do part of guided practice, so once the students have practiced together, and weve done it together, then they are able to show me if they can do it on their own. Exit tickets collect feedback on students understanding at the end of a class and provide the students with an opportunity to reflect on what they have learned. They can be helpful in prompting students to begin to synthesize and integrate the information gained during a class period.
You will want to make sure that exit tickets are anonymous if you are soliciting any feedback on your teaching practice, so that students are able to answer honestly. However you decide to collect information, let students know whether their submissions will be anonymous or not.
Exit tickets can be formal or informal and take a variety of forms, depending on the learning outcome or objective.
An exit ticket - also called exit slip - is a sheet of paper or, in BookWidgets case, a digital widget with questions that each student answers individually at the end of the lesson. The questions can be about the lesson content (what they liked about it, what they remember), or about how they feel after the lesson.
