hey everyone Anthony here from The Faculty of apps if you are a fan of this channel you might remember a while back that I demonstrated using in crypto my favorite free app for encrypting files and folders on your Mac however if theres one area where in crypto falls short its sending files to other people you see for the recipient to be able to decrypt and read your in crypto files they will also need to the app which isnt ideal what you really want is for your recipient to be able to decrypt your files using say a password without the need to anything at all even better if you can do that on any device whether that be a Mac PC or even an iPhone or an iPad and the free app that lets you do exactly that is called keka keka basically encrypts your files and Zips them up into a single compressed folder making them easy to send and and reducing the overall file size in the process if you Google keca it should be the first result that pops up now when you open the website youll be dra

If you have a Mac with Apple silicon or an Apple T2 Security Chip, your data is encrypted automatically.
On your Mac, choose Apple menu System Settings, click Privacy Security in the sidebar, then click FileVault on the right. (You may need to scroll down.) Click Turn On. You might be asked to enter your password.
Data on the built-in, solid-state drive (SSD) is encrypted using a hardware-accelerated AES engine built into the T2 chip. This encryption is performed with 256-bit keys tied to a unique identifier within the T2 chip.
Turning on FileVault provides an extra layer of security by keeping someone from decrypting or getting access to your data without entering your login password. If you use a Mac that doesnt have Apple silicon or the T2 chip, you need to turn on FileVault to encrypt your data.
Mac computers come with encryption built into the hardware and software. The encrypted content can include system and application files, configuration files and user data such as documents, music and photos.
In the Finder on your Mac, open a window, then Control-click the item you want to encrypt in the sidebar. Choose Encrypt [item name] from the shortcut menu. Create a password for the disk and click Encrypt Disk. Important: Be sure to record and keep this password in a safe place.
No downside other than the length of time it takes to do the encryption, (Im assuming FileVault,) especially if the internal HD is a spinning disk, and/or if there is little free space on the drive. If there were usability issues, nobody would encrypt their disk. I have 4 Macs, all encrypted.
