Steps to Encrypt Files on Your Android and iOS Phones STEP 1: AxCrypt from Google Play Store or App Store and sign into your account. STEP 2: Tap the Secure button with a padlock icon and select Phone. STEP 3: Browse and select the files that youd like to encrypt. Tap and hold to select multiple files.
As the name suggests, File-Based Encryption works at the file level. That is, each file has its own key and can be decrypted independently from other ones. Android relies on a Linux kernel feature to achieve this, called fscrypt , supported in various file systems such as Ext4 and F2FS.
Right-click (or press and hold) a file or folder and select Properties. Select the Advanced button and select the Encrypt contents to secure data check box. Select OK to close the Advanced Attributes window, select Apply, and then select OK.
In other words, simply set a pattern, PIN, or password to take advantage of Androids built-in encryption. If you dont set either of these, an attacker can simply gain access to your device, without even having to break through Androids encryption.
If you are using dynamically generated secrets, the most effective way to store this information is to use the Android Keystore API. You should not store them in shared preferences without encrypting this data first because they can be extracted when performing a backup of your data.
If you havent already, set a lock screen PIN, pattern, or password. Open your devices Settings app. Tap Security Location. Under Encryption, tap Encrypt phone or Encrypt tablet. Carefully read the information shown. Tap Encrypt phone or Encrypt tablet. Enter your lock screen PIN, pattern, or password.
