Method 1: Use redirection to save command output to file in Linux. You can use redirection in Linux for this purpose. With redirection operator, instead of showing the output on the screen, it goes to the provided file. The redirects the command output to a file replacing any existing content on the file.
Using echo One way we can write variable contents to a file is to use the echo command along with the redirect operator. In this case, the -e argument applies to the call to echo and is not sent as output to the file.
You can create a text file with the cat command by typing cat filename. txt, entering your text, and then pressing Ctrl+D to save and exit.

The s command of less enables us to save the input to a file from less. Its crucial to note that the s option only works if we pipe the file contents to less from the terminal. After that, we hit the Return key so that all lines from less are written to a file. Lastly, we use q to exit.
To save a file, you must first be in Command mode. Press Esc to enter Command mode, and then type :wq to write and quit the file. The other, quicker option is to use the keyboard shortcut ZZ to write and quit. In Vi, write means save, and quit means exit.
