What is a Do Not Resuscitate order? A Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order is another kind of advance directive. A DNR is a request not to have cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if your heart stops or if you stop breathing.
Stated simply: A do-not resuscitate order says that if your heart stops beating, or if you stop breathing, you dont want to be resuscitated. An advance directive is more general. You can specify your wishes if you are incapacitated.
What to Include in Your Advance Directive. The name and contact information of your healthcare agent or proxy. Answers to specific questions about your preferences for care if you become unable to speak for yourself. The forms and questions asked vary a bit from state to state.
We know that even prior to his suicidality, he had completed an advance directive, presumably when he was of sound mind. An advance directive for mental healthcare, however, is intended not for endof-life planning but for life planning.
DNR (do not resuscitate) and DNI (do not intubate) orders tell medical providers not to attempt CPR or resuscitation measures.
There are currently two types of DNR orders: 1) DNR Comfort Care, and 2) DNR Comfort Care - Arrest. Upon the issuance of either order, standard forms of identification are provided for in OAC rule 3701-62-04.
Keep the original in a safe but easy to find placelet others know what it is. DO NOT put it in a safety deposit box. If you can scan your advance directive, there are several services that will store it and make it available on demand wherever you are.
Directive sentence Example. My only directive to our group was a strong suggestion we act unanimously.
Advance directives are legal documents that provide instructions for medical care and only go into effect if you cannot communicate your own wishes. The two most common advance directives for health care are the living will and the durable power of attorney for health care.
(ad-VANS duh-REK-tiv) A legal document that states a persons wishes about receiving medical care if that person is no longer able to make medical decisions because of a serious illness or injury.
