Contact your local Post Office and request their assistance in resolving the problem. All information in our national ZIP Code database is maintained by the Address Management System (AMS) Office and request the street name to be corrected.
Introduced on July 1, 1963, the basic format comprised five digits. In 1983, an extended code was introduced named ZIP+4 ; it included the five digits of the ZIP Code, followed by a hyphen and four digits that designated a more specific location.
There is no last zip code. The USPS makes changes to its delivery system periodically, and quite often will introduce a division of a particular zip code, making it two different (or three different) zip codes. This is done to make delivery more efficient.
The credit card machines at gas stations and other automated points of purchase require the credit card ZIP code for security reasons. This is known as an Address Verification System (or Service), also known as AVS. Once you make a purchase, your ZIP code and the transaction information are processed at the same time.
These last 4 digits represent specific delivery routes within delivery areas. This extra detail means an even more precise matching to a more granular level. It could represent a handful of houses on one side of a street, or even a single building that receives a high volume of mail.
Your ZIP+4 is a basic five-digit code with four digits added as an extra identifier. It helps to identify a geographic segment within the five-digit delivery area, such as a city block, a group of apartments, an individual high-volume receiver of mail, or a post office box.
So, if all information in the address (street name and number, city, state) is correct save for the ZIP Code, the package will most likely still get delivered to the intended recipient, but it will be delayed because of manual handling and the time it takes to transport the package from the wrong post office to the
