can you use final draft 11 for book writing simple answer yes you can but would you want to there are a couple of things that you should know about final draft when it comes to book writing the version iamp;#39;m using for the purpose of demonstration here is version 11. final draft has a couple of templates for book authors of which youamp;#39;re most probably going to use the novel template the novel template is basically just like any other script document just the formatting is a little different you have the template pre-filled with some sample text and if you go to the formatting elements you see that the formatting is set to general all the other kinds of formatting elements wouldnamp;#39;t make sense for anything that is not a script the font is set by default to the same courier final draft font as the script templates you can change that of course i just suppose that you might want to use a different font for writing a novel since there is no necessity other than with movi

FADE IN is the first text on the first line of your script (the beginning). FADE OUT or FADE TO BLACK is for the end of the script. Writing THE END in place of either of those will work as well. DISSOLVE TO is the proper transition to use within the script, if needed. Its a common mistake, but a very annoying one.

And at this point weve only talked about scene headings primarily. But all the elements are over here under the format tab on the right. So if you want to use an
Each transitional instruction, such as DISSOLVE TO:, should appear at its own margin. The standard indentation is 6.0 inches from the left edge of the page. In other words, the transition would begin 2.5 inches from the right edge. However, utilizing screenwriting software can be much easier and more efficient.
Begin your screenplay with FADE IN (all caps), justified to the left. These are the first words of your screenplay. Secondary Scene Headings can be used if a single location has many smaller locations within it. This can make the scene sequence easier to read and can be helpful for action sequences as well.
The most popular transition CUT TO is simple and directs the reader to immediately go to the next scene. Back in the day, screenwriters wrote CUT TO between every scene, but nowadays, its just implied that youll be cutting to the next scene unless you specify with a different transition.
Tell a good story. This is the single most important rule in all of screenwriting.
Fade in is only applicable if your screenplay starts with a fade in. If it doesnt, dont use it. In fact, in many scripts there wont be a transition for the first scene unless one is specifically required for artistic effect.
FADE OUT is used at the end of the last scene to indicate the end of the screenplay. FADE OUT (punctuated with a period) is typed at the right margin and is followed by a period. The words THE END (capitalized, underlined, and centered on the page) always follow FADE OUT.
