Vias allow designers to route signals through the PCB in a more direct and space-saving manner. Power Distribution: Vias play a role in power distribution within the PCB. They allow power planes on different layers to be interconnected, ensuring that all components receive the necessary power supply.
Vias are conducting holes in the PCB. They electrically connect one PCB Layer with another, say, connecting the top PCB layer with the bottom PCB layer. Vias could also connect layers in between. On the other hand, Traces are meant to conduct electricity from one PCB component or PCB pad to the other.
Essentially a via is a small drilled hole that goes through two or more adjacent layers; the hole is plated with metal (often copper) that forms an electrical connection through the insulating layers.
HOW-TO: PCB Trace Repair With a Wire Jumper Step 1: Scrape away resist from repair areas. Step 2: Clean and tin exposed contact areas. Step 3: Choose a strip of wire to replace the conductor. STEP 4: Strip and tin each end of wire jumper. STEP 5: Solder one end of the wire. STEP 6: Form wire as needed.
What is a Via? A via is a small drilled hole that goes through two or more adjacent layers. It allows the signals and power to travel between layers. As the circuits between the layers of a multilayer PCB are independent of each other, vias are important means to establish inter-layer connections.
Vias go through two or more layers of PCBs to form an electrical connection. Making them right under the components pad saves space, reduces track inductance and simplifies design.
Minimum-sized vias (0.25-0.3 mm) are typically preferred. Smaller epoxy-filled vias require less material; however, depending on board thickness, smaller vias may necessitate laser drilling.
Conductive via filling allows the effective transfer of electrical signals from one side of the circuit board to the other, while enhancing its thermal transfer properties of the via.
