the following binary number has place values for its bits Iamp;#39;m going to move this into a grid as you can see here and weamp;#39;re then going to consider what place value each of the bits have if we look to the First Column we can see it has a place value of one and this is the units column if we look to the next column it has a place value of 2 and we can see that this is doubling the one what Iamp;#39;d like you to do is to pause the video and decide what goes in these two positions so letamp;#39;s consider what goes in this position and we know it should be twice this so what weamp;#39;re going to see is the value of 4. now what we have in this position will be twice this so we should expect to see here eight and what youamp;#39;re looking at here are the place values for the binary bits that are below

Since the binary system uses only two digits or bits and represents numbers using varying patterns of 1s and 0s, it is known as a base-2 system. Here, 1 refers to on or true, while 0 refers to off or false.
Thats because it grows very complex and would be very difficult to represent any ohter number. For our ease we use only 1 and 0. This is not possible while using other numbers; Now coming to physical significance: Logic gates are applied in the circuits with the help of transistors that use voltage as input output.
1 + 0 = 1. 1 + 1 =10.
Only fractions with a denominator which is a power of two can be finitely represented in a binary form. For example, denominators of 0.1 (1 / 10) and 0.2 (1 / 5) are not powers of two, so these numbers cant be finitely represented in a binary format.
Sound capture The signal is processed by a hardware component called an analogue to digital converter (ADC). The ADC takes a measurement of the analogue signal at regular time intervals; this process is called sampling. Each measurement (sample) is recorded as a binary number.
Following the binary rules, 1 + 1 = 10. This means a 1 needs to be carried over to the left. The second column from the right becomes 1 + 1 + 1. This results in 11 with a 1 needed to be carried to the left.
Something similar happens in binary addition when you add 1 and 1; the result is two (as always), but since two is written as 10 in binary, we get, after summing 1 + 1 in binary, a digit 0 and a carry of 1.
Sound waves are analogue and therefore they need to be converted into binary in order for a computer to be able to process them. To do this, the computer must convert the waveform into a numerical representation so that the waveform can be stored digitally. For this, we use an Analogue-to-Digital Convertor (ADC).
