Minute Masterpieces: Better Art in 60 seconds Texture Rubbings Texture rubbings create the illusion of texture using value. When a crayon is rubbed over a textured surface more pressure is applied to the parts that are higher and these appear darker. To make this you will need: Broken crayons Lightweight paper (I used different colors of construction paper) Textured objects or surfaces The objects you choose for your rubbings must have a texture that is raised like this doily or one that is incised like this embossed pattern. Rough surfaces also work well. Place a sheet of paper over the surface and rub firmly with the side of a broken crayon. Repeat the process with several different textures and colors. Explore and see how many interesting patterns you can create.
