Embedded zerotree wavelet (EZW) algorithm is the well-known effective coding technique for low-bit-rate image compression.
Using sandpaper Its also a natural and chemical-free way to remove varnish. It can however be labour-intensive: Start with 150-grit sandpaper and sand the entire surface. Then, move onto 220-grit sandpaper and repeat.
Rubbing a thick finish Begin by sanding just enough to flatten the finish, removing any nibs, drips, or other defects (Photo F). Wet-sand solvent-based finishes using soapy water, rubbing oil, or mineral spirits as a lubricant. For water-based finishes, dry-sand with stearated sandpaper.
Sand with the grain just enough to smooth out major imperfections. Its best to use the finest grit possible; in most cases, 600 grit will work well. Youll need to use a type of sandpaper that wont clog with hunks of dried finish.
Start by sanding your surface with fine-grit sandpaper to smooth any rough edges. Wipe down the sanded surface with a moistened towel to remove any dust or debris. If desired, base coat the surface, painting in the same direction as the wood grain; allow to dry.
Lightly buff the stained surface with No. 0000 steel wool, and wipe it clean with a tack cloth. Apply a new coat of the same finish already on the surface -- varnish, penetrating resin, shellac, or lacquer -- over the newly stained area, feathering out the new finish into the surrounding old finish.
