Use acetone (finger nail polish) very carefully where your name is signed to try to remove as much ink as possible and then resign it. (Dont get the acetone on the magnetic strip.) If that doesnt work, try using olive oil. What should I do if I lost my credit card a long time ago?

Let the ink dry. Dont put the credit card away immediately after you sign the back. If you put the card away too soon, the ink may smear and your signature will become unintelligible. Depending on the ink you use, the signature may take up to 30 minutes to dry.

You should use a felt-tip pen, like a fine point Sharpie because the ink in a regular ballpoint pen will not stick to the cards plastic surface. To avoid smearing your signature and getting ink all over the card and your hands, let the signature dry for a couple of minutes before putting it in your wallet.
For debit and credit card transactions, the merchant may check the signature on your reciept against the signature on back of the card. This is intended to verify that you didnt steal the card. So, if you want to change the signature on the back of the card, all you need to do is get a new card and re-sign it.
