Use these five tips to help you ace the multiple choice questions on your tests and exams. Read the questions carefully. Make sure you understand what the question is asking. Answer the question without looking at the options. Eliminate the incorrect options. Answer all the questions. Manage your time.
When numerical options vary greatly, chances are that the best response is in the middle ranges. Eliminate the highest and lowest options. Certain questions have answers that are closely related or almost identical, except for one detail. This should be your clue to choose one of the two similar answers.
Most people (and tutors) tell students that, if they have no idea on a question, to just guess answer choice C the middle answer on most multiple choice tests.
Im sure youve heard this at some point if you dont know the answer, always guess C. because its the most common correct option. Thats just a myth, and generally there are no most common answers on multiple choice tests.
Multiple-choice questions may have an obvious correct answer; sometimes, its the longest choice. Teachers tend to explain the answer more fully and in detail, so choosing the longer one may give you a better chance of getting it right. The more information there is, the better!
Use between three and five alternatives per question. Research shows that three-choice items are about as effective as four or five-choice items, mainly because it is difficult to come up with plausible distractors. Make sure there is only one best answer.
There is no particular option that is mostly correct in MCQ questions. The only way to finalize your answer is through elimination method. Read the question. Cancel out the incorrect options that you are sure of. Read the question again. Compare the options that are left.
