why does this shot look like this itamp;#39;s shot in whatamp;#39;s called log and actually you know what hold on one second okay much better now letamp;#39;s talk about exactly what log is and why you might want to shoot like this log isnamp;#39;t just for campfires itamp;#39;s also a shooting profile for cameras log is short for logarithmic profile which is a camera color profile which retains more details in the highlights and the shadows shooting in a profile like this will give you more options in post to manipulate the image for instance when you shoot in a less flat profile like this and you happen to overexpose when you try to bring the brightness down in post it doesnamp;#39;t work very well and the image ends up breaking up but when you shoot in log the camera retains more information in the highlights and it gives you more wiggle room in post see much better so how do you expose when youamp;#39;re shooting in log it can be difficult to tell exactly what the exposure i

So how do we expose LOG correctly? Expose to the right (meaning to the right of the histogram i.e slight over exposure). Use an 18 percent grey card. Send a normal REC 709 curve to the monitor/eye peice and expose that as you normally would.
Normal video footage is shot in the REC. 709 colour gamut, but material recorded in S-Log is recorded in the much wider S-Gamut colour space. Put simply, the wider the colour gamut, the more colour information can be recorded and the more vibrant and realistic your images will look.
S-Log is a gamma curve designed to record and transmit as much of the information recorded by your cameras sensor as possible. S-Log breathes life into your images by preserving the wide color gamut and dynamic range recorded by the sensor.
The many advantages of shooting in S-Log Shoot with a combination of S-Log and S-Gamut, and your material can retain a wider color gamut, dynamic range, and tonal range than with traditional techniques. This image information provides exceptional flexibility in color grading, as you give scenes the look you envisioned.
Shooting in LOG offers a much broader dynamic range and color depth compared to compressed video formats. While compressed formats are smaller in file size and easier to handle, they lose docHub image detail and color information during the compression process.

Choose log for balance between control effort, raw for pushing creative boundaries with expert knowledge. Log: More data than regular video, easier to manage, good for most creative projects. Raw: Ultimate data access, complex demanding, best for professionals with top-tier hardware skills.
The benefit of shooting in log is that your video files will have a higher dynamic range. Put simply, this means your camera will capture more detail in the bright and dark areas of your image than with a standard gamma curve. You also have more scope for color grading your video files in post-production.
